The difference between TOPCon and Perovskite Solar Cell

The difference between TOPCon and Perovskite Solar Cell
Oct 07, 2023

TOPCon solar cells and heterojunction (HJT/HIT) solar cells are traditional crystalline silicon cells, which are the second generation of photovoltaic cell technology, and perovskite cells are representatives of the third generation of non-silicon thin film solar cells.

Perovskite/crystalline silicon laminated solar cells are the combination of these two technical routes, for perovskite solar cells and traditional crystalline silicon solar cells superimposed to form a double-junction solar cell, simply speaking, refers to the perovskite solar cells in series on the surface of crystalline silicon solar cells.

At present, a single perovskite battery has not completely overcome the problem of too fast efficiency decay, and perovskite/crystalline silicon laminated solar cells are expected to become the best industrialization landing technology.

In terms of performance, perovskite/crystalline silicon laminated solar cells broaden the absorption spectrum through the advantages of combination, and obtain higher photoelectric conversion efficiency than single crystalline silicon solar cells or perovskite solar cells, and the theoretical conversion efficiency can exceed 30%.

In terms of theoretical limit conversion efficiency, the ultimate efficiency of HJT, TOPCon and perovskite single-layer solar cells is 27.5%, 28.7% and 31%, respectively.

It is worth noting that perovskite/crystalline silicon laminated solar cells are expected to create more possibilities for heterojunction solar cells represented by HJT. This is because heterojunction solar cell technology and perovskite solar cell technology belong to the low-temperature process, the production equipment compatibility of the two technologies is relatively high, and the heterojunction solar cell is double-sided power generation, and it has a thin film process.

So perovskite technology is easier to do on the basis of heterojunction solar cells. The TOPcon solar cell technology is a high-temperature process, and there is no transparent conductive film itself, so the difficulty of superimposing perovskite technology is naturally higher than that of heterojunction technology.
